Dr. Dan is a clinical dementia specialist and clinical hypnotherapist who specializes in neurocognitive disorders such as Alzheimer’s and other types of dementias, as well as neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s and ALS.
Dr. Dan is originally from the North of England. He first trained as a Social Worker, then as an RN and progressed to become a Hypno-Psychotherapist (in the UK) and Clinical Dementia Specialist with a doctorate in Transitional Shock.
He is also an author, researcher, writer and speaker.
His book: “A Clinicians Guide to Non-Pharmacological Dementia Therapies” will be published in 2019. He is also co-authoring a book on dental care for dementia patients.
His research on the use of Montessori techniques to help people living with dementia learn how to feed themselves again, resulted in an aspect of “Re-mentia” (a term coined by professor Tom Kitwood).
Dr. Dan’s MARTIS program helps to improve quality of life by bringing back memories and creating engagement for people with cognitive disorders. (MARTIS stands for Music And Reminiscence Therapy Incorporating Storytelling.)
He is a world leader in the use of hypnosis for people living with dementia.
This follows his groundbreaking research with Dr. Simon Duff, which has led to the development of a training program for clinicians in this specialized therapy. The results were astounding in improving quality of life for people living with dementia.
